This privacy policy explains how FOUNDRY² handles personal information when you visit foundrysquared.com, interact with our posts, leave comments, use website features or sign up for email alerts.
Who we are
FOUNDRY² is an independent game studio and the operator of foundrysquared.com. For privacy enquiries or requests about your personal data, contact us at accounts@foundrysquared.com.
Information we collect and why
Comments
If you leave a comment, WordPress processes the information you submit, including your name, comment text and any optional email address. WordPress may also record technical information such as your IP address, browser/user-agent information and the time of submission. We use this information to publish and manage discussions, moderate comments, reduce spam, investigate abuse and keep the website secure.
Our lawful basis for the moderation and security aspects of this processing is our legitimate interests in operating a safe, useful community website. Where you choose to save comment details in your browser, that storage is optional and controlled by you.
Likes and reactions
Post and comment likes are designed to work without a visitor account. The website stores aggregate like counts in WordPress and uses first-party browser cookies containing post or comment IDs so your browser can remember what it has liked. These cookies are not designed to identify you by name or email address.
Website analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 through Google Site Kit to understand how the website is used. Depending on your consent and our Analytics settings, this may include information such as page and session activity, approximate location, browser and device information and interactions such as category filters, post likes, shares, newsletter sign-up events and infinite-scroll loads.
For non-essential analytics storage, we rely on consent where required. You can refuse or withdraw analytics consent at any time through the site’s Cookie Settings. FOUNDRY² uses Complianz as its consent-management platform and Google Site Kit to communicate the resulting consent state to Google Analytics. Google Analytics uses IP addresses for technical processing and location derivation; Google states that it does not log or store individual IP addresses for UK users.
Email alerts
FOUNDRY² uses MailPoet to manage email-alert subscriptions and deliver new-story notifications. When you enter your email address, MailPoet stores the address and subscription status and sends a confirmation email. Your subscription is not activated until you confirm it through that email (double opt-in).
We use the email address you provide only to send the FOUNDRY² updates you requested and to administer that subscription. The lawful basis is your consent. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any update. Unconfirmed signups are configured to be deleted after 30 days.
The FOUNDRY² signup form does not ask for consent to track whether you open newsletter emails or click links, so signups created through this form are submitted to MailPoet with email open/click tracking consent denied.
Server, security and technical logs
Our hosting and website systems may create technical logs containing information such as IP address, requested URL, timestamp, browser/user-agent information, error details and security events. We use these logs to operate, secure, diagnose and maintain the website. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interests in maintaining the security and reliability of the service.
Sharing links
If you choose to share a story using a third-party service such as X, Facebook, LinkedIn or your device’s native sharing tools, that service may process information under its own privacy terms. FOUNDRY² does not receive your social-media password or account credentials from those services.
Where information comes from
Most personal information is provided directly by you when you comment or subscribe to email alerts. Technical, analytics and security information is generated by your browser, device, website interactions and our hosting/measurement systems when you use the site.
Do you have to provide personal information?
You are not under a statutory or contractual obligation to provide personal information to browse the public website. A name is required if you choose to post a comment; an email address is optional for comments. An email address is required only if you choose to subscribe to email alerts.
Who we share information with
We only share personal information where needed to operate the website and its services. Current service providers may include:
- Spaceship, which provides website hosting and related infrastructure.
- Google, where Google Site Kit and Google Analytics are used for site measurement and reporting.
- Complianz, which provides our cookie-consent banner and stores first-party consent preferences so the website can honour your choices.
- WordPress service/plugin providers where a specific service is necessary to operate a feature.
- MailPoet / Automattic, which provides our subscriber-management and email-delivery service for FOUNDRY² update alerts.
International processing
Some service providers may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where this happens, we rely on the safeguards and transfer mechanisms made available by those providers and applicable data-protection law.
How long we keep information
- Comments: generally retained while the relevant post and discussion remain published, unless a comment is removed or a valid deletion request applies.
- Comment contact details: retained with the comment in WordPress for moderation and administration unless removed.
- Like-state cookies: stored in the browser for up to one year.
- Analytics data: retained according to the retention settings configured in our Google Analytics property.
- Server/security logs: retained according to the operational and security settings of our hosting and website systems.
- Email subscriptions: confirmed subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe or otherwise withdraw consent, subject to any limited suppression record needed to honour an opt-out. Unconfirmed signups are configured to be deleted after 30 days.
Your data-protection rights
Depending on the circumstances, UK data-protection law may give you rights to access, correct or erase your personal data, restrict or object to processing, receive certain data in a portable form, and withdraw consent where consent is the lawful basis.
To exercise a right, contact accounts@foundrysquared.com. We may need enough information to verify and action your request.
Complaints
If you have a concern, please contact us first so we can try to resolve it. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). Information about making a complaint is available at ico.org.uk.
Automated decision-making
We do not use personal information collected through this website to make solely automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about visitors.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the website, mailing system or third-party services change. The date at the top of the page shows when this notice was last updated.
